Sant Calvin Uvach

I'm not dumb. I just have a command of thoroughly useless information.
The sadistic pleasure a teacher gets in punishing students, more than compensates for their lousy pay!
Life is full of precluded possibilities!
If you can't win by reason, go for volume.
There's no problem so awful that you can't add some guilt to it and make it even worse.
Mother is the necessity of invention.
The secret to good self-esteem is to lower your expectations to the point where they're already met!
You know how people are. They only recognize greatness when some authority confirms it.
The State Sponsored Terrorism Also Called the Gym Class.
Trusting your parents can be injurious to health.
The world is much nicer if you can get away from it.
There’s an inverse relationship between how good something is for you and how much fun it is.
As far as I'm concerned, if something is so complicated that you can't explain it in 10 seconds, then it's probably not worth knowing anyway.

Friendship

I was reading one of my friend's blog, who is senior to me, a good writer, versatile personality, an engineer, Administrative officer, CEO; i.e. a broad exposure in his life. Here are few lines from his blog.
"Friendships, if they are honest, are not a zero sum game; in relations people win or lose in togetherness. Sometimes they have the scope to blame external factors for barriers; at times it is the false pride, lack of self belief or playing extra safe."

I must appreciate this, a complete definition of relationship. Taking a chance to elaborate this. Hope each one of us agrees that 'win or lose in togetherness'. An important aspect of relationship - 'togetherness', this requires absence of ego, self believe and not getting effected by external factors. but why people play extra safe? may be they donot want to lose if they see a chance of losing, its like share market buy it when it is up, sale it as it starts going down, Or they have a high survival instinct. A base meaning of survival instinct is: The instinct for survival, which translates into fear of death; or one cannot live. it can be translated further into many things, without those someone cannot survive, like food, power, position, social recognition, some followers etc.
This is true, if we see mankind as a species. If we go back to history we can see many such a examples like, fight between different races, Spanish empire, Nazi concentration camps, these days terrorism etc. There are also few examples of togetherness; Gandhi's movement, Nelson mondela, State of Israel ; for purpose of peace and survival of peace and humanity along with freedom and creativity, art and culture.
You may be wondering, how above historical examples is related with this topic 'friendship' or survival instinct. I would just say its all about a desire of an individual or a group. When the desire or ambition come on priority to the human values.
Lets take some example, my mom is hospitalized, money is required and i can get the money by disposing my car, but what if i cannot live without it? then i 'll feel like loosing due to togetherness, there can be many more thing (like 'car'), without those one cannot live. This survival instinct make people to play 'Extra Safe' however every individual has it at different level.
The feeling of togetherness survives unconditionally only when people live for human values ( My senior wrote as 'If they are honest', in his blog ), and keep them at highest priority over personal priorities or ambitions.

Book Review - 7 Day Weekend

Recently i have finished this book. Seams to be written
the 'ideal case studies', i.e. if we sit in Semco's
cafeteria, we can find some critics too i mean Semco
may not be as ideal as written. But its worth.

Few points which i like,
1. Importance of collective gut feel of all the people
involved in any project(CEO to office boy).
2. Lot more Stress on Integrity and ethics.
3. Peer pressure make people working, rather then
military control( managers are driving ).
4. Environment is being created and maintained by
appropriate recruitment and mentoring process.
5. Lots of stress on Atomic growth i.e. Natural
growth.
[ framework is being evolved itself by some basic
rules Ricardo call it as 'Survival Manual', one good
thing is not a single person is a HERO, its all about
the team ]
6. Work environment, is also important, people are
happy to come at work, they love their work.
7. Success is not only money, it is customer
satisfaction, money and employee satisfaction.
8. Mutual trust, the most important thing is trust
between employee and employer.
9. Stress on self management.

Thats what i remember for now.

Ricado has one good point of view, 'anthropological'
and his tendency to look at 'Tribes' ( mostly to
understand naturally self sustainable, self managed system)

One more good point is defining a personality.
IQ+EQ+SQ-EGO ; Mostly we do the same subconsciously, A wonderful description.
(I- Intellect, E- Emotional, S- Spiritual)

This was all about the book says, my understanding in a nut shell is, an organizational growth is sustainable only iff they have some common denominator ( Ricardo says as Survival Manual ) like integrity, ethics, honesty, in other words 'Organization's Culture and Values'. There is lot more stress on Organizational Health these days, i strongly believe that a common denominator solve this purpose, no one has to perform any action to improve and sustain 'Organization's Health'.

Semco is growing @40% per anum, with almost no iteration, business has grown in many dimension.
A Live example of true democratic environment. Individuality, Independence , Respect is sustained irrespective of designation.

It stays fresh only for a while

I have already written about the interactions which survive despite lack of proximity. This is about how these bloom and add to our happiness.
There are a few attributes of an interaction - mutual respect, feelings, affection and responsibility.

Mutual respect is an essential attribute of an interaction. No interaction can survive for long in a free environment without it. Then we have feelings. Feelings come in different shapes and sizes. Sometime they are gut feelings, sometime the voice from within and sometimes in the form of love. With feelings we start developing affection over time. And that leads us to become responsible for the other person.

A joyful interaction can progress in different manner as well. For example you are officially responsible for someone ( say as a tutor ). That may lead to feelings and affection and mutual respect. Another example is where feelings commence an interaction. You meet someone and have some feelings. That may lead to affection and mutual respect and becoming responsible for that person.

A lasting interaction, though, requires mutual respect or mutual feelings. Any one sided attempt to have a relationship due to affection or responsibility alone is futile. As futile as cutting a branch of a tree and keeping it in water to keep it fresh. It stays fresh for a while. It stays fresh only for a while.

21st century :: Nirmal Anand, Latest Trends, New definitions.

In 21st century, there are new definitions of ‘Nirmal Anand’ , some ‘latest trends’ and Generic ‘New definitions’. Few are as follows.

1. Sit in a bar or at some place drink as much as possible.
2. Go to disc and dance till you get tired.
3. Look for one more boyfriend / girlfriend (sometime it is called as genuine log).
4. Ignore human factors, Get busy with own things.
5. What are you doing this weekend, should be your first question.
6. The person sitting next at the moment is your BEST friend at that moment; forget it once he/she is getting away.
7. Friday fun and Saturday night concept must be your life style.
8. You must listen, and honor them if someone calls you as ‘Bindaas’; this is the biggest honor to you.

If you believe above 8 points then it is called ‘Modern’ i.e. ‘Being Non Conservative’ i.e. ‘Advance’.

What is not considered as ‘Niramal Anand’.

1. Following up your hobbies.
2. Reading some books.
3. Listening to music.
4. Talking to friends and family.
5. Watching movie.

Above four points requires a non toxic mind and one need to sit in house. But if you do this then it ‘ll become conservative approach i.e. ‘Non Modern’.

Definitions:

Spending the life Vs Living the life:
One of my friend has came across this concept, “If you are thinking of someone and contributing to his / her objectives that means you are spending the life, in other way you are living the life i.e. other person is spending on you”.

Focus of life:
Similar to above, A Human factor should not be considered as “Focus”, a focused life is concentrating only on career, money, materials.

Personal Space:
This is very important concept; it is there in Indian philosophy since long time. It is being used to improve one’s personality, spirituality and skills.
The new concept is “Let me do whatever I want” i.e. kick / ignore the people or human factors around.

By heart, close to heart:
Some concept or someone praise you, or give you the logic / reasoning then it is by heart or close to heart.

Being Independent:
The absolute independence means minimal dependencies on the materials and people i.e. as minimum it is one is more independent.
The latest concept is “I am financially independent”, I can do what I want.

Author’s comment:
I ‘ll keep adding these definitions as I come across.

Now I have a question to the readers,
Are being Modern gives “The Happiness”.
Are these definitions lead you to peace of mind? Or it is just satisfies one’s ego and outer mind?

Open for discussion, feel free to mail me your thoughts.

After a long time . . a special day....

Since I moved to Hyderabad, it was very rare to go for any musical concerts as it is not common in this city. In college days I have been associated with SPIC MACY, hence got chance to interact 1:1 with various artist however my understanding to the music was not as pure(or perfect) as those artist were in their art. But I really liked it but unaware why I do.
Pandit Chaurasiya, Shivji (Pt. Shiv kumar sharma ji) , not publicly known (more precisely non commercial) form of Shubha Mudgal , Neeladri Kumar, Pt. Yashvant Bua Joshi etc. These are just few names but only one thing was common in all of those “Dedication to the pure music” and understanding of it and all were MASTER in there area.

After a long time, today I got the chance to see the performance by Birju Ji Maharaj, he was in different mood totally, not just performing also linking this art to the Nature and Philosophy of life. Generally I have many questions in my mind irrespective of situation or person but today I had absolutely nothing!! This is only due to purity / perfection of Biraju Mahar ji! May be some small contribution is also due to my expended exposure to this world.

Years of practice and purest form of Art; Sur , Taal, And Bhav(Emmotions) – outstanding!! I have been listing to known Vocalist for long time so I was really amazed to listen thumari from Maharaj ji! He is known Dancer not a Vocalist, But it was Perfect! Perfect! Perfect!

To dance one need some rhythm, Bol, Beets, but he need nothing; these things are there in his mind. I had listen a story about him, he was performing somewhere near sea, and mostly it was on High Tide at that time, he asked to stop the Tabla player and started dancing with sound of Waves!!! Amazing!!
Seams to be difficult or fake? No, as one thing is common between Nature and classical music : they are natural, hence pure!! As per the evidence I can say only one thing “Sur Saat Hote Hai” and no buddy could found 8th Sur.

After the performance I did talk to Maharaj ji! And just communicated my state of mind, he answered in one sentence “I was not dancing, I was seeing the dance”!!!
Amazing ! one sentence Maharj ji has defined everything.
In further chat between Kiran Seth and Maharj Ji!
“Ye to Bas seediya hai jiname mai rang bharata hua upar jaraha tha , tukada kaho ya chhand, ya thumari ye to keval seediya hai”
I or Kiran did not asked where these ‘seediya’ goes as we have our own terminology to define that. Being professor Kiran has defined it as “Alpha-Domain” I was smiling when he started on this again, 6-7 years back we (Our Group Students) used to have discussion around his terminology - and about Alpha-Domain, today I have no questions.

Meeting Kiran after a long time was another interesting thing, just for introduction; he is founder of SPIC MACY, working constantly for it. By profession he is professor at IIT Delhi.

Shabari ke Ber: Discovering Intentions

In Indian mythology, there is a short story about Lord Shri Ram and Shabari. Shabari gave Ram berries (ber) which she had already tasted.

Since Ram was a god, he was clear about Shabari's Intention. What if one is not a god?
How a person can be so sure about someone's intentions?

Generally we all go by faith. This faith is generated in several ways - the amount of
interaction with the person, one's own experiences etc.

These things are mostly fact-driven. For example, if I think with my logical mind, then the first question that comes is, “Why should the person give me tasted ones?”
and get irritated.

Then if we go by empirical mind which learns by its neural network, then we might give the person the benefit of the doubt. But then again, this mind also has some data as input from one's exposure to life.

Then how can one be as sure about someone’s intention as Ram was if we don't want to use a fact-driven method.
Ram's certainty came from his perfection being a god. And certainly it is difficult (but not impossible) for us to be perfect like Lord Ram. We have to make out people's intentions based on what we have despite our imperfection.
This is what we usually call a gut feel, mostly not influenced by any data and fact ( i.e. exposure of life ). But how dependable is one's gut feel?

I believe that there are varying degrees of imperfection. And with time, we can reduce the level of imperfection and move further along the scale towards perfection.

In my childhood, my Granny had talked to me about the concept of “Manasa Vacha Karmana” based on old Indian literature (Ved and Upanishad). “Manasa Vacha Karmana”
talks about doing what you say and say what you think -in effect having your thoughts, talk and actions in harmony. As people become more capable of brininjg their thoughts, words and actions in sync, they become closer to perfection.

I also remember a song from Shankar Mahadevan (aka Shankar Ehasaan Loy) “Heart and Body; Mind and Soul”, which explores a similar concept. This is more elaborated “Manasa.” Here the idea of 'manasa' is divided into three - Heart, Soul and Mind.

I believe these three are not mutually exclusive and feel that each element has it's own attribute; Heart – Emotions, Soul - Gut feel, Mind – Beliefs.

Beliefs are based on our exposure of life. Emotions can be situational. A gut feel, on the other hand, is independent and absolute.

Our beliefs are more susceptible to change based on our expanding exposure to life. For instance, while discussing social issues with my friend, we talked about whether it is right to avail the services of Red Light District.

My friend argued that it is as simple as paying for a service and availing it. If we go with this logic, it seems that there is nothing wrong in it. This logic begins and ends with the individual.

As we discuss the issue with a group, we see that there are several other issues that play a factor in deciding whether this(my friend’s) argument is right or wrong. For example,

1. Should there be any difference between hiring a car and hiring a person to fulfill one's desires?
2. Often, the hired person does not opt to provide this service, and is often pushed into it because of financial or social circumstances.
3. One way or another, this creates friction in the family and society.

So in this case it is possible that exposure to others' ideas changed my friend's beliefs. So, as our exposure expands,we can get better and better at a logical level.

With the possibility that our set of beliefs is changeable, it becomes more difficult to practice “Manasa Vacha Karmana” and keep your thoughts words and actions in sync. However, as we understand ourselves better and are able to keep these three elements more and more in sync, we will be further along on the road to perfection.

Let me link this to start of this article. More the sync, less the imperfection and a person's gut feel (like Lord Ram’s about Shabari’s Ber) becomes more reliable with it.
It is individual’s choice to continue to work on reducing the percentage of imperfection. And it is also imperative that one is at least able to maintain the percentage of perfection one has achieved, to avoid dissatisfaction.

Comments:
I feel there are few approaches to keep Heart and Body; Mind and Soul in sync one can choose to start with soul – like “Budhdha”, soul and heart – “Kabeer”, Or can choose to go by mind and body – Like “Swami Vivekanand”.
Above are two extremes, most of us choose to be in between i.e. mix and match of two extreme or philosophy. ‘ll try to elaborate about these philosophies in future articles.
